He was among the most American of all American pop-culture icons. Most of you are sure to remember Burt Reynolds for his role as Bo ‘Bandit’ Darville in Smokey and the Bandit, but he was far from a one-hit wonder; rather, he was one of the greatest actors ever. Reynolds passed away on Thursday, 6 September, at the age of 82. If things had gone the way Burt Reynolds wanted, he’d probably never have gotten his big break on the big screen. Like any good American lad, Burt wanted to be a footballer. He was good enough, too, accepting a scholarship with Florida State University in 1954.
