The Morgan’s rise to favor has been possibly the biggest story in numismatics in the past half-century. Fifty years ago, as far as collectors were concerned, the coin was nowhere. It was a coin waiting for a following. There were plenty of collectors, but the Morgan dollar, which still circulated, was more money than most could spend on a coin.
