Five things to look out for

THERE’S A LITTLE MORE TO MEMORY CARD READERS THAN MEETS THE EYE…
Connection type Many card readers now connect to your computer using a USB-C plug: you may need an adapter. USB speed USB 3.1 Gen 2 is twice as fast than Gen 1, but few readers use it, and few memory cards are fast enough for Gen 2. Read speed All the readers here are compatible with UHS-II. UHS-I card readers will read UHS-II cards, but more slowly. Stay wired Some readers use a USB cable that’s hardwired to the reader body – a problem if the cable gets damaged. Extra ports With fewer ports on the sides of modern laptops, a card reader hub with extra USB sockets may be handy.…
