Carroll and His Cars Appear in “Rollerball”

Carroll Shelby is a big star. Yes, we all know that, but now Hollywood has discovered the legendary race-car driver/builder. 01’ Shel and his cars appear in the remake of the 1975 sci-fi thriller “Rollerball,” screening in theaters this summer. Director John McTiernan used two Shelby Series 1 roadsters and Shelby’s personal continuation version of the Cobra Daytona Coupe for the filming. Even 77-year-old Shelby himself makes a cameo appearance. Star Chris Klein’s character drives a Series 1 in the movie, which is about a bloody renegade sport that pits roilerskaters against motorcyclists. MGM’s press release says the Series 1 is destroyed in an explosion (thus the need for two copies), and Klein’s character goes on to drive Shel’s nouveau Daytona.…
