Cooling-system failure has been shown to be the third leading cause of highway breakdown, running behind gas depletion and tire failure. A reason for this may be that we take our vehicle’s hoses and drivebelts for granted and don’t have them changed every three years or 36,000 miles. If your vehicle’s temperature indicator light goes on, or if the temperature gauge climbs into the red, pull over, stop, and turn off the engine. If you find a leaking hose or a hose clamp that needs tightening, attempt the repair after the engine has cooled. Remember, be extra careful working under the hood. Protect yourself against the heat and steam. Even if you don’t find signs of a leak, you still should go to the nearest service facility. If you can’t find anyone…
