It was the era of big scoops, slats, stripes, and spoilers. A time when nearly any model of car could be ordered with a factory-built hi-po V-8. Yeah, 1970: The year that’s arguably the pinnacle of the muscle-car era. Ford made sure nobody overlooked the Mustang in those days. From Mach I to Boss 429, the FoMoCo pony-car was a living legend. This was the second model year of the Boss 302, and though its tiny 5.0-liter didn’t pack the torque a quarter-mile drag racer needs, the car proved a perfect platform to destroy Chevy’s SCCA Trans-Am road-racing domination. In terms of straight-line acceleration, the “baby Boss” was no match for the mighty 429 (which blasted 0-60 mph in 6 seconds flat and through the quarter-mile in the low 14s), but…
