Joe & Aggie’s Cafe is a tiny, aging, nondescript roadside eatery on the sleepy main street of Holbrook, Arizona. It’s about as exciting to look at as a closed tire store. Why then, we pondered, was a video crew outside acting like it was the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Oscar night? We gobbled down the last of our breakfast, and stepped outside. “We’re from Channel 12 in Phoenix,” offered Ron Hoon, the handsome field correspondent, “and we’re doing a story on Route 66.” Joe & Aggie’s, it turns out, is a living piece of history from the route’s boom days. When we mentioned that we were in the process of retracing Route 66 along its entire length, from Los Angeles to Chicago, the reporter’s eyes widened. We were an authentic man-in-the-street…
