Though this Galant takes an authoritative step toward the venue of middle-American buyers, you’ll still not find a V-6 in the offering. Which means that once the new Honda Accord hits the auto malls this fall (supposedly with a V-6 soon to follow), only the Galant and Nissan’s Altima will be left pining exclusively with four-cylinder engines. As is the case with the smaller-size Altima, the Galant’s no-six plight only concerned me until the time I first mashed the gas pedal on our test car. Wow! Wheelspin, tire smoke, and a healthy chirp of rubber on the 1-2 shift quickly changed my mind about the muscle of this dual-overhead-cammed four.
