Buying a Jaguar always has B been, and most assuredly remains, a largely emotional decision. While I think this latest iteration of the veteran XJS platform is, without doubt, the finest ever, I’m a bit less certain that trading off the cache of a V-12 engine to gain a much-needed four-speed automatic transmission and the associated $10,750 cut in sticker price is necessarily going to result in the hoped-for big-time sales impact. If traditional grand touring, not sport flogging, is your cup of tea, the new six-cylinder XJS clearly merits serious consid-eration. Its basic appeal is enhanced further by an expanded roster of standards and a gaggle of mechanical tweaks.
