I have been fortunate enough to visit Gettysburg twice along with many of the other iconic battlefield sites across the Eastern seaboard of the United States. There is something fascinating and fatalistic about Gettysburg that sets it apart from the other 1800 or more fighting engagements of the Civil War. There was an odd series of events that led to this battle, often forgotten in set-piece recreations on the tabletop.
