ALTERIUM ARE THE newest rising stars in Italy’s oft-overlooked power metal scene. But for singer Nicoletta Rosellini, they also represent a chance to begin again. Formed from the ashes of Kalidia, a symphonic band who were active for more than a decade but never managed to break through into the mainstream, Nicoletta admits that by the time the band dissolved, she had grown tired of the struggle. “If I could visit myself in my old band, I’d say to disband it way earlier!” she says. “Right now, I have the perfect band, but I wish I’d started it sooner.” By Nicoletta’s reckoning, in Alterium the chemistry between the musicians is better, they have a clearer sense of purpose, and it’s revitalised her love of power metal.
