UK brutalists’ debut gives a personal take on ‘cancel culture’

PRESS ‘CANCEL CULTURE’ IS a term that has exploded in the digital world over the last few years, and Hertfordshire upstarts Vexed have flipped the idea around on their ferocious debut album, Culling Culture. “We thought, ‘Hey, instead of the typical ‘cancel culture’ slant, why not cancel the people in your own immediate circle, and get rid of all the toxic shit?’” says vocalist Megan Targett. “The album – and title – are about getting rid of those in our lives who aren’t good for us. Each track is written about an individual in our lives we cut out, from abusive ex-partners to those exploiting their privileges.” There’s no sugar-coating in Vexed’s music.
