Harlech has always been a favourite destination for tourists and enthusiasts of medieval history. It is a site I have visited many times since the 1970s, but it was only in the 2010s when a good historian friend suggested to me that the true story of Harlech Castle had been misrepresented. I was then persuaded, almost against my better judgment, to look again at the documentary history of the site.
