THE CEOS OF NO LESSER CONSUMER TITANS than Best Buy and Target both think that tariffs are going to turn into higher prices for consumers. That’s right—just when you thought graphics card prices couldn’t get any worse, here comes something to mess things up all over again.

Price increases for American consumers are likely. So said Best Buy CEO Corie Barry in response to the recent reactivation of 25 percent tariffs on goods and services from Canada and Mexico, plus an extra 10 percent on China for good measure, adding to the 10 percent tariff the Trump administration applied back in January. Barry said China and Mexico are Best Buy’s top two import territories, with 55 percent and 20 percent of its products sourced from those countries. Meanwhile, the CEO of Target, Brian Cornell, said tariffs mean “prices will go up”. Cornell was speaking specifically about the impact of tariffs on Mexican goods. Admittedly, Target isn’t exactly a PC component specialist, selling only fully built PCs and laptops, so Cornell’s comments aren’t as directly relevant as Best…
