Master file resolution and compression to produce movies for different destinations

To create a lighter, more shareable movie file you need to understand how a clip’s resolution and compression settings relate to its file size. Let’s start with resolution. A GoPro Hero 4 Silver’s biggest clip measures 3840 pixels by 2160 pixels. This high resolution qualifies such a clip for the 4K label (as it’s almost 4000 pixels wide). Unless you have a 21.5-inch 4K iMac, you’ll have to scale down your video footage to make it fit on your display (or HD TV). Fortunately iMovie enables you to resize large files to a smaller resolution that’s compatible with common displays.
