Use Photos to overcome common problems with your panoramic iPhone shots

Photographs of a landscape are often disappointing to look at when compared with our memory of the photo’s subject. On location we can look left and right to take in the splendour of the scene. However, a typical photo’s aspect ratio is much narrower, so only a section of the scene is recorded. Fortunately, thanks to your Camera app’s Pano mode, you can capture a much wider panoramic view. This can be a challenge though – if the location has contrasting light and dark areas then some sections will be under or overexposed, or if you fail to keep the camera panning horizontally you’ll notice ugly black edges with missing data.
