COVERS WOVEN IN SILKEN RIBBONS

Inspired by May Day festivities, this absorbing craft uses an age-old pattern to create pretty cushions for the spring home

FOR HUNDREDS OF years, ribbons have played a central part in May Day celebrations, with communities joining together to dance in groups around a maypole, creating a pattern with the long, coloured strips as the dancers skip back and forth to music. Inspired by these joyful festivities, this project weaves pretty pastel ribbons together to create a piece of decorative fabric that is ideal for making luxurious cushions to add some seasonal pattern and texture to the home. Any ribbons can be used for this project, but thicker ones that are less easily damaged are a little easier to work with.
