My design origins

A RECENT trip to my native South Africa was a reminder on how I started on my design journey, a journey that eventually led to Jaguar and the many cars I would design there. I was born in a one horse town in the middle of South Africa, where my father had grown up after my grandfather had moved there in 1904. On my first birthday my parents moved to a place called Pinelands, which was modelled on an English garden village with thatched roofs and so on. My grandfather had owned a Ford dealership there which my father later transferred to Cape Town.
