It’s best to think of Ultimate Fortnite Challenges as part mag, part game. In every issue of UFC, we’ll set you a series of challenges. Three for Battle Royale and three for Save the World: Bronze, Silver and (no prizes for guessing) Gold. Each of those challenges has five or six subchallenges. Tick off all the subchallenges and you can tick the box at the end that says you’ve completed that challenge! We all love a Battle Royale with our buddies, but what do you do when your mates aren’t online? Fortnite doesn’t make you battle it out on your own. Instead, you can join forces with three random teammates for a Squad game! Playing with strangers is more difficult than fighting with mates. HOW DOES THIS MODE WORK? The Getaway was introduced as a Limited Time Mode towards the end of Season 5 – although we hope it will stick around for a while longer! → It works like this: four safes are dropped on the map soon after you land. You and your teammates have to prize open the safe, collect the Llama jewel and then deliver that jewel to one of the four getaway cars floating above the map. If you deliver a jewel to the car, you’ve won! → The game first arrived in four-player Squad mode, but soon transferred to Duos, which is much better in our opinion! One of the big secrets for success in Save the World is crowd control. Basically, you’ll face situations where there’s one of you and a whole bunch of hostile Husks and Misties, and if you don’t hold them off and take them down, they’ll tear you to shreds – which isn’t ideal. Luckily, gamers have been working out strategies for dealing with mobs for years, and many of them work in Save the World. What’s more, you always have a range of weapons and abilities you can use to pound the Husks to kingdom come. Fortnite is as much about building as battling, and that’s as true in Save the World as it is in Battle Royale. This is the reason we’re going to challenge you to build a beefy two-stage Watchtower this month, then use it to defend an objective. GET SET This challenge works on any defensive mission, although Ride the Lightning and Fight the Storm work best, since there are no tricky time limits involved. Pick a forest or grasslands area, as you’ll have wider spaces to cover and a lot more wood with which to work. You can play solo by switching Game Privacy to Private, or play with friends. A lot of Fortnite’s missions are defensive missions – and they’re all much harder when you don’t have a Fort! Without a base it’s just you and the Husks and Mist Monsters, with no barricades to hide behind and no traps to wear them down.
