The spirit of home gives a 14-storey hotel a surprisingly intimate feel.

There are plenty of luxury hotels near Toronto’s tony Bloor Street West strip, where Chanel and Gucci boutiques line the blocks alongside world-class museums and restaurants. What was lacking was a chic yet cosy spot that nodded to the surrounding area’s historical homes and bohemian legacy. Kimpton Saint George filled that vacancy when it welcomed its first guests in June. All 188 guest rooms have the collected feel of a carefully curated apartment. “The intent was for the rooms to seem like they evolved over time,” says Ashley Rumsey, a partner at Toronto’s Mason Studio, which led the design.
