We didn’t plan it from the start, but a strong visual theme emerged in our big fall decorating issue: decorating’s gone to the dark side.
Of course, black’s always been integral to the success of a room. We’ve long preached the gospel of including at least three black pieces to add weight to a space. We’ve also published the work of vanguards who weren’t afraid to go for it when all-black rooms were avant-garde. I remember being wowed by Connie Braemer’s charcoal bedroom and ensuite back in 2007. And who could forget the Princess Margaret Showhome of 2010? Lynda Reeves painted the kitchen cabinets and walls off-black and kept the mood going with Bluestone pavers on the floor. We loved it so much we put it on the cover.
