Koinonia is defined as “Christian fellowship or communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians.” Another definition is the “intimate spiritual communion and participative sharing in a common religious commitment and spiritual community.” Participative sharing is a beautiful expression of the act of fellowship.
However, participative sharing is not simply sharing – the act of giving from one to another. Rather, it is giving and receiving from all, and for all people involved. It is not a passive action. Someone is not simply receiving on the other end. Participative sharing is active: it is about giving freely and receiving freely.
This may be a very difficult concept to understand, because everyone is so different. I often hear people saying that we have “different love languages”. Participative sharing is meant to be…
