SECRETOS DE UNA VILLA GALLEGA DE PELÍCULA

Pocas localidades en Galicia pueden hacer sombra a esta villa orensana. Además de un privilegiado entorno natural, vertebrado por el río Arnoia y que es Reserva de la Biosfera, Allariz tiene una enorme riqueza patrimonial, en la que destacan el mayor claustro barroco de España y un rehabilitado casco histórico, que cuenta con el Premio Europeo de Urbanismo.

A ORILLAS DEL ARNOIA, un serpenteante afluente del río Miño, y protegida por un promontorio que fue castro celta y asentamiento romano, surgió, allá por el siglo VI, una población fundada por un noble suevo de nombre Aliaricii. Con el tiempo, esta población llamada Allariz se convirtió en una fortificada villa medieval, con un imponente castillo en lo alto. Dotada de unos favorables fueros, enseguida atrajo a muchos artesanos, comerciantes y a una importante comunidad judía. Mucho de aquel pasado sigue latente en su armonioso casco histórico, tan bien rehabilitado que cuenta con merecidos galardones. El más importante es el Premio Europeo de Urbanismo, que también hace hincapié en la recuperación integral del río Arnoia.
