LA INCREÍBLE HISTORIA DE UNGENERADOR NUCLEAR PERDIDO

HAY ALGUNAS HISTORIAS QUE, DE NO EXISTIR INFORMACIÓN CONTRASTADA, HACEN PENSAR EN QUE NO PUEDEN SER POSIBLES. ESTE ES EL CASO QUE NOS OCUPA, UN CASO QUE, DE NO SER POR EL PELIGRO POTENCIAL QUE ENTRAÑA, SERÍA OBJETO DE CHISTE. PORQUE, ¿CÓMO PUEDE PERDERSE UN GENERADOR ELÉCTRICO EN LA CORDILLERA MÁS ELEVADA DE LA TIERRA? ES MÁS, NO SÓLO SE PERDIÓ, SINO QUE PRESUMIBLEMENTE SIGUE ALLÁ ARRIBA. VISTO ESTO, CABE HACERSE OTRA PREGUNTA LÓGICA: ¿QUÉ HACÍA UN APARATO DE ESE TIPO EN UNA MONTAÑA? LA ACCIÓN SE SITÚA EN PLENA GUERRA FRÍA Y, CON ESO, QUEDA TODO DICHO. EL CONFLICTO ENTRE SUPERPOTENCIAS NUCLEARES DIO LUGAR A TODO TIPO DE EXPERIMENTOS Y AVENTURAS ROCAMBOLESCAS. LA QUE HOY NOS OCUPA ES UNA DE ESAS LOCURAS.

Cuando eres una superpotencia nuclear uno de tus mayores miedos es que tus enemigos amplíen su arsenal, en una carrera por tener más armas, o mejores, que ellos. La segunda mitad del siglo XX vio cómo esta competición armamentística casi ter mina de una forma terrorífica. Los Estados Unidos vigilaban todos los movimientos de la Unión Soviética, y viceversa. Y, cuando nuevos actores con “la bomba” entraron en juego, los esfuerzos por saber qué se traían entre manos se multiplicaron.
