EL CAMINO A LA DEMOCRACIA DE POLONIA EL ASTILLERO DE LA LIBERTAD

LA LIBERTAD GUIÓ A LA EUROPA DEL ESTE EN 1989. CUANDO SE CUMPLE EL TRIGÉSIMO ANIVERSARIO DEL LLAMADO OTOÑO DE LAS NACIONES, RECORDAMOS EL PROCESO DE TRANSICIÓN DEMOCRÁTICA VIVIDO EN POLONIA AQUELLOS AÑOS. EL GENERAL JARUZELSKI, RESPONSABLE DE LA LEY MARCIAL DE 1981, SE VIO DESBORDADO POR LA FUERZA INCONTENIBLE DEL SINDICATO SOLIDARIDAD QUE, TRAS SU LEGALIZACIÓN EN LOS ACUERDOS DE LA MESA REDONDA, LIDERÓ EL CAMINO AL FUTURO, QUE SE CONCRETARÍA UN AÑO MÁS TARDE CON LA VICTORIA DE SU LÍDER, LECH WALESA, EN LAS ELECCIONES PRESIDENCIALES. EL EJEMPLO POLACO FUE UNA OBRA MAESTRA DE LA INGENIERÍA POLÍTICA Y SU LEGADO SE DEJÓ NOTAR EN EL RESTO DE EUROPA.

Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, la nota dominante del mundo fue su inflexible división en dos bloques: el del Este–atenazado por el comunismo soviético–y el occidental–guiado en su mayor parte por democracias liberales. Polonia fue uno de los países que más contribuyó a acabar con esta hostilidad. Ocupada por las tropas nazis en septiembre de 1939, el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial implicó su vasallaje respecto a la influencia soviética, que se tradujo en la persecución de cualquier elemento contestatario y la inmediata pérdida de libertades. A comienzos de 1945, el Ejército Rojo quebró las defensas germanas en la ofensiva delVístula-Óder, y Varsovia, la capital, cayó el 17 de enero.
