Att hon skulle sitta på kaféet och fika hade hon inte räknat med. Hon hade heller inte kunnat ana att besöket skulle förändra hennes dystra tillvaro.

Esmeralda putsade sina silverskedar och la försiktigt ner dem i det blå vadderade etuiet. Hon hade aldrig använt dessa skedar. De var en present från hennes släktingar som hon fått för länge sedan. De brukade komma med presentkort till henne till byns guldsmedsbutik och där fick hon sedan hämta ut en silversked tills hon hade sex stycken dessertskedar. Väldigt vackra med utsirat skaft, men hon hade aldrig använt dem. Esmeralda suckade och strök med fingret över den glatta ytan. Hon saknade sin barndom ibland. Allt var så obestämt och bekymmerslöst. Hon behövde inte ta beslut för det gjorde hennes föräldrar. Hennes älskade föräldrar. Nu var de borta båda två. Esmeralda saknade dem så mycket. Vad skulle hon göra utan sina föräldrar? Som liten hade hon inte ens tänkt tanken men…
