Under många år höll Dee Dee sin dotter inlåst och gav henne mediciner som gjorde henne sjuk. När mamman höggs till döds satt Gypsy i rummet intill och lyssnade till de sista ord hon någonsin skulle höra från sin mor: ”Gör mig inte illa.”

Historien om hur den 48-åriga Clauddine ”Dee Dee” Blanchard hittades mördad i sitt hus efter att en Facebook-status med orden ”That bitch is dead!” postats på hennes profil, fick stor spridning i sociala medier. Clauddine och 19-åriga dottern Gypsy Rose bodde i Springfield, Missouri, och levde ett till synes fridfullt liv. Dottern vårdades i hemmet av sin mor som hävdade att den unga kvinnan varit sjuk sedan födseln. Men sent på kvällen den 14 juni 2015 hittades Dee Dee mördad i sitt hus. Polispatrullen som ryckt ut efter larm från oroliga grannar kunde snabbt slå fast att hon blivit knivhuggen till döds i sin säng flera dagar tidigare. Dee Dee och Gypsy var välkända i området. Mamman hade berättat för grannarna att de flytt från Louisiana för att undkomma exmaken…
