Jans pappa Egil Johansen var en av Sveriges främsta jazztrummisar. Han spelade med alla de stora, Monica Zetterlund, Lill-Babs och många fler. Han dog 1998 i sviterna av en hjärtattack som inträffade mitt under en spelning.Till hans begravning kom många av hans kollegor, på bilden här ovan Lill-Babs på väg in i kyrkan. 2013 kom den självbiografiska boken "Med Nya Ögon" som Jan skrev tillsammans med journalisten och författarinnan Colette van Luik. Boken ledde till ett skivprojekt där Camilla Läckberg skrev texter till Jans musik. Albumet hette “Trumslagarens pojke”, titeln syftar på pappa Egil. Jan debuterade redan 1983, då som sångare i popbandet Magnum Bonum som 1978 hade en stor hit med låten ”Skateboard”. Jan sjöng med bandet fram till 1989.
