X-bracing has been the norm on steel-string acoustics since the Martin company popularised its use in the early 20th century. Taylor’s Andy Powers took the bold step of developing V-bracing (explored in greater depth on p80), claiming improved sustain, balance and even intonation. We A/B’d the 714ce with an X-braced version and were impressed.
