YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, RIGHT? We get our hands on a constant stream of stellar guitars that typically range from about £2.5k. But if you’ve  blown your gear budget and still must have that guitar, you’re going to have to lower your sights. What writing our Mod Squad column has taught me over the past 12 months is that if you know the basics of setup, how to swap pickups and parts, and can use a soldering iron, you can seriously narrow the gap between a £300-to-£500 instrument and one of those uber-axes.
