The Steel Woods Old News Thirty Tigers Southern roots rock rides again This is the second album from the dual-guitar songwriting partnership of Wes Bayliss and Jason Cope. With Bayliss hailing from Alabama and Cope from North Carolina, it’s inevitable that the album would take on a Southern accent with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers influences prevailing throughout. We detect a little dash of Joe Walsh in places, too. Among the original tunes, the band take on classic material such as Townes Van Zandt’s The Catfish Song, Merle Haggard’s Are The Good Times Really Over, and Gregg Allman’s Whipping Post, the latter given a faithful-to-the-original performance, losing none of its power along the way.
