It seems counterintuitive, but letting your thoughts meander won’t lower your productivity — at least on everyday chores (laundry, dusting, you name it), finds a study in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Participants completed a repetitive computer task while scientists stimulated their frontal lobes in an effort to elicit mind-wandering. To the researchers’ surprise, as daydreaming increased, the participants’ ability to do their work stayed constant or improved (albeit not by a statistically significant amount). Scientists can’t yet explain the results, but they do know one thing: Our mental capacity may be more expansive than previously thought, says senior study author Moshe Bar, Ph.D. Be a daydream believer, you Type A overachievers.…
