Building their own home is a dream for many people, but for Ella Blackwell and her husband Paul, knocking down their bungalow to build a modern three-story house became a reality when they discovered its foundations were virtually non-existent. ‘We had always planned to renovate the property,’ explains Ella. ‘But it turned out our best option was to pull it down and start again.’ It was in 2009 that the couple moved from London to leafy Tunbridge Wells in Kent. ‘I grew up in the Sussex countryside and wanted to move closer to home,’ says Ella. ‘We drew up pros and cons for different areas, which lead us to the town, and after taking a day trip that December, fell in love with its cosy feel and Georgian colonnade all…
