Delightful Dragonflies

Have you ever seen a dragonfly? Because they are insects, they have three body parts: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. Large eyes help them see well. Each eye has up to 30,000 lenses! Your eyes have only one lens each. A dragonfly has two sets of large wings on its thorax. If you look closely, you will see net-like veins in the wings that actually help soak up the sun. The wings beat rapidly and help the dragonfly move forward, backward, and even sideways. A dragonfly can hover like a helicopter to stay still in the air. This helps it find food, like mosquitoes. It can fly 40 miles per hour, which helps it zoom away from predators, such as birds, spiders, and frogs. You will usually see…
