While Turn Out The Lights was miles removed from the serial that first introduced Leonard Swindley to the world, over the years Coronation Street has been no stranger to the paranormal. Here are some of the never debunked haunted highlights from six decades in the Rovers Return. GHOSTLY GLASSES (1975) In 1964, gossipy Martha Longhurst (Lynne Carol) was the first Coronation Street regular to receive an on-screen death. Ena and Minnie’s best friend passed away suddenly in the snug of the Rovers Return and eventually everybody moved on with their lives. Then, in 1975, barmaid Betty Turpin (Betty Driver) – who had never met Martha – found a pair of oddly familiar spectacles on the bar. They were eventually claimed by another customer, but this didn’t explain the ghostly echoes…
