PEOPLE’S DAY OF DEATH 2024

Evolving out of the Toxteth Day of the Dead (see FT441:20-23), the People’s Day of Death takes place on 23 November every year. This is the latest iteration of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty’s post-KLF K2 Plant Hire Project, The People’s Pyramid, which is a funerary structure built out of bricks to which 23g of a dead person’s ashes have been fused to produce a “Brick of Mu”, a process known as MuMufication. Each year, up to 26 new bricks are ceremonially added to the Pyramid on 23 November and this is intended to continue until the Pyramid is 23 feet high (there are a lot of 23s involved, which hark back to Drummond and Cauty’s original inspiration, the Illuminatus trilogy, and before that, William Burroughs).
