Un oceano di stelle (ericci)

Popolano le acque di tutto il mondo con le loro forme insolite e i colori accesi. Ma hanno anche altre caratteristiche sorprendenti!

COLORI ACCESI PER DIFENDERSI E MIMETIZZARSI Le stelle marine (echinodermi asteroidei) sono invertebrati molto comuni in tutti i mari del mondo, con dimensioni che variano da pochi centimetri a più di un metro. Mentre il colore varia a seconda delle specie (ne esistono circa 2 mila), ed è fondamentale per spaventare i predatori o per mimetizzarsi sui fondali, la loro struttura è sempre la stessa: hanno un disco centrale da cui partono bracci in numero variabile (5 nelle specie più comuni ma possono arrivare a 50!), ciascuno dei quali ha, al suo interno, nervi, un tratto di intestino e, nella parte inferiore, 2 o 4 file di pedicelli ambulacrali.
