EUROPEAN FORD EVENT RETURNS The European Ford Event (EFE), organised by the Dutch Ford XRST Club, is the largest Ford show in mainland Europe. It traditionally takes place on the second weekend of September; held in the south of the Netherlands since 1993, it attracts over 2,000 visitors from all over Europe every year. For a long time, Megaland in Landgraaf (known for the Pinkpop music festival) was the preferred location for the European Ford Event – and after fifteen years of absence, the EFE will return in 2024 to this iconic location. If there's one thing that's defined the modifying scene for generations, it's the inability to leave things alone. Something may be perfectly good in its own right, but we'll always yearn to turn it into something better, until the whole thing begins to spiral out of control. You add a bit more power, then you get used to it, and have to add some more. After all, while none of the various versions have really survived in large numbers, there was an established and obvious halo effect for the models that wore XR and RS badges. Every car guy and girl knows that sometimes along the line of modifying, repairing and maintaining their cars, mistakes can be made. Although I have all these cars to tinker with you'd think I'd know everything… wrong! Chaos (my wrapped blue Focus RS on air-ride) has been off the road for some time, basically since its feature in the magazine, after an engine failure while ticking over outside the unit. The car just kept turning over and over showing signs of no compression at all. I ordered a new fully linered and forged engine to be swapped into it to solve the problem. Between the second round of the British GT Championship at Silverstone and the series’ first race visit to Donington Park, Academy Motorsport made another trip to Europe. Misano Circuit on the Italian Adriatic coast was the venue for the third and fourth races of the European GT4 Championship. THE FORD VAULT MILE MUNCHER As you can clearly see in this photograph, wallies cruising in the middle lane on an empty motorway is not a new behaviour. Indeed, what we're seeing here is a slice of history from back in 1986, the era of Top Gun, Beadle's About, New Kids on the Block and Crocodile Dundee. A particularly seismic event in that year was the opening of the M25 motorway, the iconic ribbon of concrete that orbits the nation's capital and had been under construction since 1973.
