GIUBBILEI ON TIMELESS GARDENS
With their trim hedges, symmetrical rows of trees, and striking contemporary sculptures, the gardens of Luciano Giubbilei are meticulously layered compositions of leaf, grass, stone, and light. (Flowers are used sparingly.) His Renaissance sense of order can be traced to his childhood in Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. Since Giubbilei launched his London studio two decades ago, his projects have ranged from townhouse gardens in Kensington and Notting Hill to groves of olive trees in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains to an outdoor exhibition at the 2015 Venice Biennale; he has won three gold medals at the esteemed Chelsea Flower Show.
