New home for BalletLab
Phillip Adams BalletLab will mark a new stage in its evolution when it holds a grand opening at its new home in South Melbourne on May 1. The company has moved into the refurbished historic building known as the Temperance Hall, which has been a cultural hub since the mid-1980s. The venue comprises a main hall/theatre, two rehearsal studios and an apartment. Balletlab wants the hall to be a space not just for its own activities, but as a venue for hire. The move into new studios has come at a critical moment for BalletLab, coming in the wake of cuts to its funding by the Australia Council. “The PABL saw no choice but to respond with resilience,” the company’s artistic director Phillip Adams states.
