Remembering Pardy’s island history Loved the cover of March 2016 issue, Pardy’s Taleisin. It brought back memories of my youth and of my living on the anchor for over four months in Mansion House Bay. The island itself, Kawau, is shaped like a pair of lungs, with the very deep, safe waterway protruding approximately three quarters of the width in. The largest safest anchorage of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. It lends itself to a very colourful history, inciting tribal Maori wars over a seasonal gathering of a shark, sun dried for winter food. The entrance has a rock-ledged frontage that covers on the flood, completely covered in oysters (protected).
