HELLO, BLACKBIRD

The GPHG double winner marks a special milestone with metal from the legendary Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft.

Although a decade has passed since the Urwerk EMC took the “Mechanical Exception” and “Innovation” prizes at the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), it feels like we were marvelling at its futuristic aesthetic and avant-garde mechanics just yesterday. Today, it is back as a 10-piece limited edition with a twist that’s teased by its “SR-71” suffix. Aerophiles will recognise that the moniker refers to the Lockheed reconnaissance aircraft nicknamed Blackbird, the fastest stealth aircraft ever built, capable of flying at Mach3+ (three times the speed of sound). Reportedly, the co-founders of Dreamland, an aerospace lifestyle brand, Jason Sarkoyan and Dr Roman Sperl, approached Urwerk to create this timepiece.
