Earlier this year, Patek Philippe held an exhibition of the largest collection of artistic timepieces it has ever created at its Salons in Geneva. A total of 82 examples were on display, including 43 wristwatches and 27 dome and small dome clocks. In addition, there were pocket watches and table clocks depicting various themes through the application of traditional artisanal crafts from engraving to marquetry and, of course, enamelling. Since the 17th century, Geneva has been known as a city rich in talent practising various decorative artistic crafts. Geneva’s watches were renowned for their artistry and aesthetic style, each of which was carefully wrought by hand. The Genevan style of enamelling was highly regarded with its Grand Feu process, firing multiple layers of enamel at temperatures above 800 degrees Celsius.…
