Task discards in competitions – are you as confused as we are? Hugh Miller talks to Luke Nicol and Brett Hazlett to understand what they’re all about... With hang gliding competitions, what you see is what you get. Pilots score for each task, and those are totted up, and the pilot with the highest cumulative score wins. Simple. In many paragliding contests, it’s harder to follow, as pilots are allowed to devalue or discard one or more of their lower scores.
