With hang gliding competitions, what you see is what you get. Pilots score for each task, and those are totted up, and the pilot with the highest cumulative score wins. Simple. In many paragliding contests, it’s harder to follow, as pilots are allowed to devalue or discard one or more of their lower scores. It’s complicated to explain, but basically algorithms reduce the effect of their worst days. We got two pilots together to look at the different systems, as they often cause confusion.
