Bridge I ENJOYED my week in Copenhagen late last year playing in a World Bridge Tour event. The WBT is a new development in our game, with the emphasis on fair play and respect—and so say all of us. I can’t lie, however, I did pretty badly. Every slam my partner Alex Allfrey bid seemed to go down (some on finesses, some much worse than that) and I went for more penalties than I can ever recall. In jest, my teammates started referring to us as ‘the Eight Bills’ given the number of 800 penalties my partner and I suffered (okay, we had some good results, too, but …).
