Ford added a touch of luxury to its newly-launched Mk2 Capri with the addition of the range-topping Ghia version in May 1974. The Ghia’s enhanced refinement perfectly complemented the Mk2’s fastback styling, ensuring Capri buyers enjoyed the double whammy of sporty styling and added prestige. Combined with the extra space afforded by the sleek hatchback design — the Mk2 could swallow nearly three times the amount of luggage as the Mk1 — and Ghia customers could argue they had a half-decent Grand Tourer. What’s more, the Ghia’s interior offered more than enough comfort for continental road trips.
