THE NOSECONE CARS BASIC OR CUSTOM, SIR? Reviving a badge that appeared on the Mk1 Escort between June 1973 and December 1974, the second version of the RS2000 was sold between January 1976 and October 1980. Instantly recognisable by its polyurethane droopsnoot nosecone, from September 1978, when the Mexico was dropped, the RS2000 became available in two specifications, Basic and Custom. The Basic model was devoid of ‘luxury’ parts such as interior console, glovebox and alloy wheels. Meanwhile the Custom was essentially the same RS2000 as before, except it now had Recaro seats rather than Scheels, a choice of trim colours and bronze tinted glass replaced the green.
