STICKY SITUATION

As a retired master coachbuilder, Nigel Baker is a perfectionist. Yet with one week to go until his Mk1 race car was due to be revealed at the Classic Ford Show, it still wasn’t wearing its racing decals. Luckily, a local graphics business came up trumps in the eleventh hour and got it just how he wanted it for The Great Unveiling.

Nigel Baker and his Mk1 Escort are no strangers to Classic Ford. This very car was featured back in August 2006 in an earlier iteration. Welcome back! The retired coachbuilder and panel beater reminded us of his history. Starting at the very beginning, Nigel bought a Prefect 107E at the tender age of 17. The bug bit early and it didn’t take long before it was sporting a 1500 GT engine, Lotus steels and disc brakes. Nigel fondly remembers buying a brand-new Mk1 Escort Mexico in 1974 from the Brighton dealership, Endeavour Motor Company. It was a big moment getting the keys to the Olympic Blue model.
