Libyan militia leader killed by military

Benghazi: A Libyan militia leader accused of human rights violations has been shot dead in the eastern city of Benghazi, a military source said yesterday. Mohammed al-Kani was killed after resisting members of the military who had an arrest warrant for him. He led the Kaniyat, a gang of six brothers who traumatised the town of Tarhuna by executing not only their opponents but slaughtering entire families. Human Rights Watch said at least 338 people were abducted or reported missing in Tarhuna. So far, 150 bodies have been exhumed in a process that began in June last year after the town was captured from Haftar’s forces. | AFP…
