Unions accuse Mango of not paying R157m in salaries this year

Loyiso Sidimba loyiso.sidimba@inl.co.za HUNDREDS of Mango employees are owed R157 million in unpaid salaries and have not been paid since May this year by the struggling state-owned low-cost airline. Mango, a subsidiary of the equally struggling national carrier SAA, yesterday suspended its flights and services due to the debt it owes to the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS). According to the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa), which wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene in the airline’s crises, state-owned ATNS is owed almost R58m by Mango. Outa said Mango’s parent company, SAA, also owes ATNS over R55.5m. The Mango Pilots Association, the SA Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) and the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) have asked the South Gauteng High Court to urgently place the airline –…
